Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Table
From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, demons, and dark forces increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Revealing details for the latest installment of the new season follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of characters who will branch out from the main group to embark on their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.
This warrior group consists of Teor (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look unsuited, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the party knows exactly where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.
The antagonist then paid off his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each member has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a hostile place.
- The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the party reach locations they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The strong figure and Wicander turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.
This means them no alternative but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
According to episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to round up the Questers and Strategists groups.
Viewers can anticipate learning which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
