Ten sentenced of digital abuse targeting Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has found guilty ten people for engaging in the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the partner of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced allegations of spreading false claims regarding her gender and sexuality, in addition to publishing malicious remarks about the couple's 24-year age gap.
The court issued suspended prison sentences of as much as eight months to the perpetrators. The full ruling has yet to be released.
A longstanding false narrative alleging that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has been in circulation since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France is concurrent with the Macrons engaging in a libel case in the US against political commentator Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted similar conspiracy theories about the Brigitte Macron's biological sex.
Their lawsuit alleges that Owens ignored all credible evidence contradicting her allegations choosing instead to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has regularly repeated these assertions on her podcast and social networks, and in March 2024 declared that she would risk all her credibility on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her future husband when she worked as an educator at his secondary school.
The two married in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
