It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a major film company and bringing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
